Special Inspector General for Program Fraud Act

This bill establishes the Office of the Special Inspector General for Program Fraud , tasked with providing independent and objective oversight of programs funded for child assistance in the United States. Its core mission is to conduct audits and investigations to prevent and detect waste, fraud, and abuse within these programs. The office will also inform the Secretaries of Health and Human Services and Agriculture, other federal agencies, and Congress about problems and deficiencies, as well as the progress of corrective actions. The Special Inspector General will be appointed by the President with Senate consent, based on integrity and expertise in areas like auditing or investigations. This Inspector General will oversee the obligation and expenditure of funds, monitor contracts, and investigate overpayments or unethical actions by federal employees or contractors. The office is designed to operate with independence in its investigative and auditing functions, reporting quarterly to Congress and making these reports publicly available. The Office of the Special Inspector General for Program Fraud is authorized to receive $10,000,000 for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 and is scheduled to terminate on September 30, 2027.
