Calumet National Heritage Area Act

This bill, titled the "Calumet National Heritage Area Act," designates the Calumet National Heritage Area as a component of the National Heritage Area System. This area encompasses parts of three counties in Indiana and portions of two counties in Illinois, recognizing its exceptional cultural, natural, and historical resources. Congress finds that the region showcases a unique intersection of industrial urbanization and rich biodiversity, offering significant educational opportunities related to industrial impact, environmental conservation, and diverse cultural practices. The designation amends the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act , specifically outlining the geographic boundaries of the new heritage area. The Calumet Heritage Partnership is established as the local coordinating entity responsible for the area's management. This entity is mandated to submit a proposed management plan to the Secretary of the Interior within three years of the Act's enactment. Federal authority to provide assistance for the Calumet National Heritage Area will conclude 15 years after the bill becomes law.
