This legislation aims to enhance safety and reduce fire risk around electrical infrastructure on federal lands. It authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to grant electrical utilities permission to cut and remove trees or other vegetation from the vicinity of distribution and transmission lines located on National Forest System land. Crucially, this removal can be conducted without requiring a separate timber sale , streamlining the process for utilities. However, such activities must remain consistent with applicable land and resource management plans and other environmental laws. Furthermore, if an electrical utility sells any portion of the removed material, it must provide the proceeds, less transportation costs, to the Secretary of Agriculture through the Forest Service.
