Wintergreen Emergency Egress Act

The Wintergreen Emergency Egress Act requires the Secretary of the Interior to issue a specific right-of-way for an emergency exit on National Park Service land in Virginia. This right-of-way, located near Milepost 9.6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway , is designated as the "Proposed Wintergreen Emergency Egress." The bill amends existing law, changing the Secretary's authority from discretionary ("may issue") to mandatory ("shall issue") for this particular egress. However, the issuance is conditional upon the Secretary certifying that several requirements have been met. These include an evaluation of alternatives that do not cross federal land, an analysis of expected fire ecology behavior for the right-of-way, and the completion of all necessary reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act and other relevant statutes.
