HUD Transparency Act of 2025

This legislation establishes a requirement for the Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Housing and Urban Development to appear annually before specific Congressional committees. By October 1st each year, the IG must present testimony to both the House Committee on Financial Services and the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. This ensures regular accountability and direct communication between the IG and Congress regarding HUD's operations. The annual testimony will cover several critical areas of the IG's work, including efforts to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse within HUD, and the IG's capacity to conduct audits and investigations. It also requires the IG to identify opportunities for program improvement, provide recommendations to enhance HUD's overall efficiency and public accountability, and assess the Department's resource adequacy to fulfill its statutory mission. This comprehensive reporting aims to increase transparency and strengthen Congressional oversight of HUD operations.
