Healthcare for Our Troops Act

The "Healthcare for Our Troops Act" aims to significantly reduce healthcare costs for members of the Selected Reserve by amending title 10, United States Code. Its primary purpose is to eliminate certain financial barriers to healthcare access for these service members under the TRICARE Reserve Select program. This legislation specifically targets individual coverage, ensuring that eligible reservists can access necessary medical care without incurring premiums or network cost-sharing. Under the bill's provisions, members of the Selected Reserve will no longer pay premiums for their individual TRICARE Reserve Select coverage. Furthermore, they will face no charges for any network health care services received through this coverage, marking a substantial benefit increase. While individual members will see these charges eliminated, premiums and cost-sharing requirements will continue to apply to TRICARE Reserve Select family coverage, aligning with existing active-duty family member categories. The bill also mandates the Secretary of Defense to develop new forms for civilian healthcare providers within 180 days of enactment. These forms will facilitate the collection of crucial information, such as a reservist's Medical Readiness Classification and fitness for deployment. These changes to TRICARE Reserve Select are slated to take effect one year after the bill's enactment, providing a transition period for implementation.
