This bill, known as the "Pay Our Correctional Officers Fairly Act," seeks to increase compensation for certain Bureau of Prisons (BOP) employees. It mandates that the official worksite of a BOP employee currently in the "Rest of U.S." pay locality be considered located in the nearest other pay locality . If multiple localities are within 200 miles, the worksite will be assigned to the one with the highest comparability payment , provided the worksite is within 200 miles of a non-"Rest of U.S." locality boundary. The legislation further provides for higher wage area pay for prevailing rate employees of the Bureau of Prisons. Employees in a "Rest of U.S. wage area" will be paid at the higher wage schedule of the nearest other wage area, determined by proximity to BOP facilities or comparable areas. Additionally, prevailing rate employees in "covered wage areas" will receive the highest applicable wage schedule and rate within their pay locality. These provisions will apply to pay periods beginning 180 days after the bill's enactment.
