Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Project Lands Restoration Act

This legislation, known as the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Project Lands Restoration Act, directs the United States to take approximately 1,082.63 acres of Federal land in Washington State into trust for the benefit of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. This newly acquired land will become part of the existing Lower Elwha Indian Reservation and will not be subject to Federal requirements for valuation, appraisal, or equalization. A specific portion of the land, the Elwha River, will be managed in accordance with the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, with necessary modifications as outlined in the Elwha River Ecosystem and Fisheries Restoration Act. The bill explicitly prohibits the use of any land taken into trust for Indian gaming purposes under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Furthermore, it mandates the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a survey to define the boundaries of the land and allows for minor boundary adjustments or corrections, while affirming that the Act does not impact the Tribe's existing treaty rights.
