This legislation directs the Secretary of the Treasury to conduct a comprehensive study and prepare a report within one year on the United States' exposure to the financial sector of the People's Republic of China. The study mandates consultation with key financial regulators, including the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as well as the Secretary of State. The report must assess the effects of significant financial stability risks in China's financial sector on U.S. and global financial systems, and describe current U.S. government policies to protect financial stability. It also requires an evaluation of the transparency, completeness, and reliability of economic data from the People's Republic of China. Finally, the report will provide recommendations for additional actions the U.S. government should take, including strengthening international cooperation, to monitor and mitigate financial stability risks from China. The unclassified report, which may include a classified annex, must be transmitted to relevant congressional committees and published on the Department of the Treasury's website.
