The National STEM Week Act establishes a dedicated week each year to promote American innovation and enhance STEM education pathways for all students, particularly those in rural, urban, and underserved communities. The National Science and Technology Council Committee on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education (CoSTEM) will be responsible for designating this week annually. Its primary goals include highlighting the importance of STEM education, showcasing diverse career opportunities, and encouraging family engagement in STEM activities at home. During National STEM Week, CoSTEM will encourage educational institutions, families, and STEM industries to participate through various programs and activities. Industries are specifically encouraged to engage with students by providing mentorship programs, site visits, guest lectures, and supporting STEM education initiatives with funding and expertise. CoSTEM will also submit annual reports to Congress detailing nationwide participation, analyzing the impact on improving STEM education and closing educational gaps, and offering recommendations for future improvements.
