Built in 1825, the House has been home to numerous influential figures, including Supreme Court Justices, a Russian Imperial Minister, and prominent congressional families, serving as a significant site for political and social gatherings. Its rich past includes ownership by figures like Tobias Lear V and the Carroll family, who hosted dignitaries and provided the "Lincoln Bible" for presidential inaugurations. Now serving as the headquarters for the Diplomatic and Consular Officers, Retired (DACOR) organization, the House fosters cultural and diplomatic exchange through various educational and policy programs. The House of Representatives applauds DACOR and its Foundation for their dedicated preservation efforts, congratulates its community, and wishes for the House's continued flourishing over the next two centuries, recognizing its enduring importance to American diplomacy, the Supreme Court, and Congress.
