This resolution establishes the Select Subcommittee to Investigate the Remaining Questions Surrounding January 6, 2021 , as a select investigative subcommittee of the House Committee on the Judiciary for the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress. Composed of not more than eight members appointed by the Speaker, with some appointed in consultation with the minority leader, the subcommittee will have a designated chair. The Chair and Ranking Minority Member of the Judiciary Committee will serve as ex officio, non-voting members. The select subcommittee is authorized and directed to conduct a full and complete investigation and study of the events surrounding January 6, 2021, specifically regarding matters within the Judiciary Committee's jurisdiction, and must issue a final report. It possesses significant investigative powers, including the authority to issue subpoenas for information and depositions, compel information by interrogatory, and receive intelligence-related information. Notably, the subcommittee is prohibited from marking up legislation. All relevant records from the Committee on House Administration are to be transferred to the select subcommittee within seven days of the resolution's adoption. The subcommittee is mandated to submit its final report to the Committee on the Judiciary by December 31, 2026 . The select subcommittee will terminate either 30 days after filing its final report or on the last day of the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress, whichever occurs earlier, with the Committee on the Judiciary designated as its successor in interest.
