It underscores that substance use disorder is a chronic, preventable disease and that overdose deaths can be averted through increased awareness, effective prevention, timely intervention, comprehensive treatment, and robust recovery support. The House of Representatives officially recognizes Overdose Awareness Day in the United States. It commits to advancing and passing bipartisan policies designed to reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorders and overdoses.
