This resolution celebrates the 54th anniversary of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 , also known as the Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act. It highlights Title IX's foundational role in prohibiting sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs and acknowledges the remarkable gains made in increasing educational and athletic opportunities for women and girls. The resolution applauds the accomplishments of women and girls in all areas of life, attributing much of this progress to Title IX's mandate. Despite these achievements, the resolution recognizes that significant work remains to fulfill Title IX's promise. It points to ongoing challenges such as pervasive sexual harassment, barriers for women in STEM fields, and unequal resources for women's sports teams. The resolution calls upon the executive branch to protect students' rights by ensuring schools prevent and respond to discrimination based on pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, and various forms of sex-based harassment. Furthermore, it condemns the "weaponization" of Title IX to harm vulnerable students, including transgender, intersex, and nonbinary individuals, and to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
