The record-setting run was expertly driven by Tommy Hurley of Ridgeway, Virginia, and the powerful 1,000 horsepower car was designed by Joey Arrington. The Martinsville Missile's achievement is part of the VA250 Car Project , an initiative of the Virginia American Revolution 250th Commission, which celebrates Virginian contributions to the nation's 250th anniversary.
