Despite its vital mission, the IAEA's Office of Nuclear Security relies heavily on unpredictable voluntary funding, a concern highlighted by the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit. This resolution reaffirms the United States' vital interest in preventing nuclear weapons proliferation and securing nuclear materials worldwide. Therefore, the House encourages the United States and other IAEA member states to ensure the Agency has the necessary resources. This includes supporting continued ministerial meetings, contributing reliably to the IAEA's Nuclear Security Plan, providing political, technical, and financial support to the Nuclear Security Fund , and developing a strategy for non-state and private sector contributions to the Fund.
