Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives in support of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) nuclear security role.

The House of Representatives recognizes the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as playing an indispensable role in strengthening global nuclear security and safety, a responsibility that has expanded significantly since its inception in 1957. The Agency's nuclear security efforts, which include providing training and establishing the Nuclear Security Fund, are crucial in preventing rogue regimes and clandestine organizations from acquiring nuclear materials.

Despite its vital mission, the IAEA's Office of Nuclear Security relies heavily on unpredictable voluntary funding, a concern highlighted by the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit. This resolution reaffirms the United States' vital interest in preventing nuclear weapons proliferation and securing nuclear materials worldwide.

Therefore, the House encourages the United States and other IAEA member states to ensure the Agency has the necessary resources. This includes supporting continued ministerial meetings, contributing reliably to the IAEA's Nuclear Security Plan, providing political, technical, and financial support to the Nuclear Security Fund, and developing a strategy for non-state and private sector contributions to the Fund.
