This resolution expresses support for the goals and ideals of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day , observed annually on March 10. It acknowledges the ongoing global HIV/AIDS epidemic and its significant impact, particularly on women and girls, who constitute a majority of people living with HIV globally. The resolution highlights that women of color, especially African American women, are disproportionately affected by HIV in the United States, facing higher rates of new diagnoses and HIV-related deaths. The House of Representatives recognizes progress made in combating HIV/AIDS but recommits to bipartisan efforts to end the epidemic. It calls for a greater focus on the HIV-related vulnerabilities of women and girls , including those affected by violence or discrimination. The resolution advocates for strong, sustained investment in prevention, care, treatment services, and research programs, aiming to reduce disparities and improve access to life-saving medications for women and girls affected by HIV both domestically and globally. Furthermore, the resolution encourages youth-friendly, culturally responsive, and accessible healthcare services , including access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and antiretroviral therapy, to facilitate early identification and appropriate care. It also supports U.S. investment in global efforts to reduce new HIV infections among women and girls through evidence-based approaches, addressing issues like violence against women and girls, combating discrimination, and ensuring access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services. Finally, it promotes access to up-to-date, inclusive, and medically accurate HIV information in sexual education curricula.
