This bill directs the Secretary of Defense to enter into a joint memorandum of understanding with the Secretary of Agriculture (acting through the Chief of the Forest Service) and the Secretary of Interior within 180 days of enactment. The primary purpose of this memorandum is to identify joint fire science research and technology priorities , encompassing critical areas such as mitigation, ecological resilience, fire and smoke modeling, response, and post-fire recovery. It also aims to direct research coordination between the Department of Defense's Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program and Environmental Security Technology Certification Program, and the Joint Fire Science Program of the Departments of Agriculture and Interior. This interagency collaboration seeks to align and enhance federal efforts in wildfire research. Furthermore, the Secretary of Defense is required to submit a report to Congress within one year, detailing the actions taken to implement this coordination.
