No Surprise Bills for New Moms Act

This legislative proposal aims to enhance health coverage for newborns by amending the Public Health Service Act, ERISA, and the Internal Revenue Code. It mandates that group health plans and health insurance issuers provide automatic coverage for a newborn for a 30-day period after birth, covering any services typically included in the parent's plan.

Following this initial 30-day coverage, the bill requires plans to offer a special enrollment period of at least 60 days for parents to formally enroll their newborn. A crucial provision also stipulates that if a plan receives a claim for an unenrolled newborn, it must provide immediate notification to the participant or beneficiary that the newborn is not yet enrolled, preventing unexpected costs for new parents.
