Safe Baby Formula Act of 2026

This legislative proposal directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to undertake a comprehensive study within one year on the health impacts of specific toxic metals—arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead—when present in infant formula. The findings from this study are intended to inform future regulatory actions and ensure the safety of infant nutrition.

Furthermore, the bill mandates the Secretary to establish evidence-based action levels for these harmful substances in infant formula within 90 days of enactment. When setting these levels, the Secretary must consider the feasibility of compliance, the Department's capacity to enforce these standards for imported products, and the potential impact on domestic food security to ensure practical and effective regulation.
