The LEARN AI Act seeks to empower the Department of Labor to actively promote the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into registered apprenticeship programs across the United States. Congress declares that it is national policy to foster workforce readiness for AI technologies through these programs, aiming to safeguard the welfare and job security of apprentices. To achieve this, the Department of Labor is authorized to undertake several key activities. These include encouraging the inclusion of AI instruction, developing and disseminating best practices for responsible AI use, and providing technical assistance to various stakeholders like employers and educational institutions. The Department will also support efforts to prepare workers for technological changes associated with AI. Crucially, the legislation specifies that nothing in the Act should be construed as requiring any registered apprenticeship program to adopt AI-related instruction or to alter existing program standards established under the National Apprenticeship Act.
