This bill aims to strengthen support for grandfamilies and kinship families by reestablishing the National Technical Assistance Center on Grandfamilies and Kinship Families. It authorizes and appropriates $10,000,000 for fiscal year 2027 , available through September 30, 2031, for the Secretary of Health and Human Services to operate the Center. The Center's primary purpose is to provide crucial training, technical assistance, coordination, and resources to community-based organizations, government programs, and other entities that serve these families. It will specifically focus on grandfamilies where the primary caregiver is age 55 or older , or where the child has one or more disabilities , ensuring targeted support for vulnerable populations. Key activities of the reestablished Center include: Developing best practices for issues such as trauma, mental health, and opioid and other substance use. Promoting the coordination of services and facilitating learning among States, territories, and Tribal organizations. Assisting organizations in tailoring services to the unique needs of grandfamilies and kinship families for more effective and efficient support.
