Duty of Transparency Act

This bill mandates that Members of Congress disclose anticipated absences of 21 consecutive calendar days or more from physical participation in their respective chambers. A disclosure statement must be filed within five days of the Member having a reasonable belief of such an absence, aiming to increase transparency and accountability. The required statement must detail the expected dates and reasons for absence , specify if official duties will be performed remotely, and provide contact information for a staff member. While Members are not compelled to reveal protected health information, they may choose to include additional details. For prolonged absences, updated statements are required every 30 days. All disclosure statements will be made publicly available online by the designated attending officer within two days of filing. Failure to comply with these transparency requirements will fall under the jurisdiction of the applicable ethics committee for enforcement.
