Sunshine for Our Kids Act of 2026

This bill seeks to make standard time permanent across the United States by repealing the existing federal requirement for daylight saving time, specifically Section 3 of the Uniform Time Act of 1966. This change would eliminate the biannual clock adjustments at the federal level. However, the legislation provides a significant exception, allowing individual states to elect to observe daylight saving time . States can choose to advance their standard time by one hour, either on a year-round basis or for a specific portion of the year, as determined by state law. This election must apply uniformly to the entire state or, for states with multiple time zones, to the entire area within each respective time zone, with the changes taking effect on the first Sunday of November after enactment.
