This legislation aims to significantly improve federal coordination in leveraging advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) , to combat pediatric cancer. It mandates the President, in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to appoint a Coordinator of AI Innovation. This Coordinator will serve on the Domestic Policy Council, focusing on accelerating progress in diagnoses, treatments, cures, and prevention strategies for pediatric cancer. The Coordinator's primary responsibility includes identifying opportunities to integrate AI-driven solutions within the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI) . This involves improving clinical trial design and access, making data platforms and tools available, and enhancing data infrastructure for AI-ready analysis. Furthermore, AI will be utilized to improve predictive modeling of patient responses, disease progression, and treatment toxicity, as well as to discover novel diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers from multi-omics and imaging data. The Secretary of Health and Human Services is also tasked with integrating AI innovation into current interoperability efforts for electronic health records and finalizing standards for patient data use with AI, all while safeguarding patient privacy. The bill authorizes appropriations for these efforts, including a specific allocation of $100,000,000 annually for the CCDI from fiscal years 2027 through 2031.
