Shandra Eisenga TB Study Act of 2026

This bill mandates the Secretary of Health and Human Services to undertake a comprehensive study on the feasibility of creating an accurate and reliable standardized test for detecting tuberculosis in human cadaver tissue. The primary goal is to enhance donor screening , bolster transplant safety , and safeguard the integrity of organ and tissue donation systems. This study must be completed within two years of enactment. The Secretary is required to consult with key agencies like the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration, as well as relevant stakeholders. The study will assess current scientific knowledge, evaluate testing methodologies, and consider implementation challenges, including the feasibility of pilot studies across diverse populations and clinical sites. Within three years, a report must be submitted to Congress detailing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for developing and implementing such a test, including any necessary legislative or regulatory actions. Funding for these activities is authorized through fiscal year 2031, subject to appropriations.
