The Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act of 2025 reauthorizes the Department of Defense's authority to sell surplus aircraft and parts for use in wildfire suppression efforts, extending this program for an additional ten years from October 1, 2025, to October 1, 2035 . This bill also clarifies that aircraft sold under this authority can be used for applying both fire retardant and water , explicitly stating their dedicated use only for the provision of aircraft services for wildfire suppression purposes .
