Preventing Stomach Cancer in Our Nation’s Heroes Act

This legislation directs the Secretary of Defense to prepare and submit a report within 180 days of enactment concerning Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) testing for members of the Armed Forces as they transition to civilian life. The report is required to include a detailed plan for implementing such testing, a comprehensive cost estimate , and a thorough feasibility study . Specifically, the cost estimate must account for testing methods such as breath and stool-based analyses. Furthermore, the Secretary of Defense is authorized to seek input and expertise from physician experts, including gastroenterologists, who specialize in H. pylori, related gastrointestinal diseases, and screening mechanisms for these conditions.
