This bill, known as the AI Tax Integrity Act of 2026 , requires the Secretary of the Treasury to establish a pilot program utilizing artificial intelligence to identify inaccurate tax returns. The pilot program is mandated to begin within 180 days of the bill's enactment and will operate for a duration of no less than 18 months and no more than two years. Upon its termination, the Comptroller General is required to submit a comprehensive report to Congress. This report will detail the aggregate amount of improper refunds or reduced tax liability detected, the total amount of government recovery achieved through the program, and critically, the accuracy of the artificial intelligence tools employed in identifying fraudulent tax returns.
