Home Internet Accessibility Act

This legislation aims to improve broadband internet access within federally assisted housing by mandating a comprehensive assessment and a strategic plan. It requires the Comptroller General to submit a detailed report to Congress within one year, analyzing current broadband access, capacity, and retrofitting needs in federally assisted housing, including estimated costs and timelines. This report will also detail deployment challenges, lessons learned, and provide recommendations for Congress to ensure universal broadband support. Following this, the bill directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development , in consultation with other agencies, to develop and submit a plan to Congress within 18 months. This plan will specifically outline the necessary retrofitting of federally assisted housing to support broadband service, aiming to ensure residents have access to essential internet connectivity.
