Save Our Pedestrians Act of 2026

This bill amends title 23, United States Code, to mandate that states dedicate a portion of their federal highway funds to improve pedestrian safety. It directs the Secretary of Transportation to require states to set aside 5 percent of funds apportioned under section 104(b)(3) for specific projects. These set-aside funds are intended for highway safety improvement projects aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities at high-risk pedestrian crossings . A high-risk pedestrian crossing is defined as one identified by the State, in consultation with local governments, as having a high frequency of incidents between motor vehicles and pedestrians. This requirement takes effect for fiscal year 2027 and all subsequent fiscal years.
