American Rescuers of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2026

This bill authorizes the collective award of a Congressional Gold Medal to Americans who actively rescued and aided Jews and other refugees during Nazi Germany's genocidal "Final Solution" policy from 1933 to 1945. The medal recognizes their profound contributions, which resulted in tens of thousands of lives being spared from almost certain death. These American efforts, often undertaken by organizations and hundreds of individuals, occurred despite significant public opposition and dangers, with some rescuers facing arrest, imprisonment, or death. The legislation highlights the critical role of groups like the War Refugee Board , which saved hundreds of thousands of lives, and notes that many rescued individuals immigrated globally. After its award, the gold medal will be entrusted to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for display and research, with a congressional sense that it should also be made available for display at other relevant locations. The Secretary of the Treasury is also authorized to strike and sell bronze duplicates of the medal to the public.
