Prices on the Wall Act of 2026

This legislative proposal seeks to enhance healthcare price transparency by amending the Public Health Service Act. It mandates that various healthcare facilities publicly display pricing information for common services, thereby allowing consumers to make more informed decisions about their care. The requirements are set to take effect on January 1, 2028 . Specifically, hospitals , ambulatory surgical centers , laboratories , and providers of imaging services will be required to post on their walls the discounted cash price for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services-specified shoppable services. If a discounted cash price is unavailable, hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers must post the median cash price charged to self-pay individuals over the prior three years. For laboratories and imaging providers, the gross charge would be posted in the absence of a discounted cash price, ensuring that consumers have access to upfront cost estimates for a range of medical procedures and tests.
