Find Our Families Act of 2026

This bill requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and maintain an online detainee locator system for individuals in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This system must be publicly accessible on the Department of Homeland Security website and available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and other top spoken languages, to ensure broad accessibility and searchability by various identifiers like alien registration number or name. Within eight hours of an individual's detention or transfer, the system must display key information such as their name, date of birth, country of birth, custody date/time, and the name, address, and contact information of their facility. For transfers exceeding five hours, detailed transit information, including mode of transportation and estimated arrival time, must also be provided, though information for individuals under 18 will not be made public. To ensure accuracy, the bill establishes an online form for family members or legal representatives to report missing or incorrect information, which the Secretary must resolve within one week. Non-compliance by employees can lead to penalties such as furlough or suspension, and contracts with facilities or contractors failing to provide timely data may not be renewed. Additionally, the bill mandates specific reporting for medical transfers , requiring notification to family members and legal representatives within five hours, including facility details, medical assessment, and status, while ensuring visitation access. It also requires the Secretary to publicly report detailed information on all CBP arrests and submit quarterly reports to Congress on CBP enforcement operations, covering aspects like agent involvement, justifications, and arrest numbers.
