This bill, known as the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress Sunset Act , aims to dissolve the existing Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress. Sixty days after its enactment, the bill will effectively sunset the committee by striking Chapter 27 from Title 44 of the United States Code, thereby removing its statutory basis. In its place, the legislation establishes new requirements for the management and preservation of congressional records. The Director of the Center for Legislative Archives will be mandated to submit an annual report by February 1st each year, detailing the previous year's activities in records management and preservation. These annual reports are to be submitted to several key officials and committees, including the Archivist of the United States, the Secretary of the Senate, the Clerk of the House, and relevant committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives. Furthermore, the Archivist, Secretary, and Clerk are required to meet and review the management and preservation of congressional records after each report submission and when a new official assumes one of these roles.
