Paraquat Prevention Act

This legislative proposal, known as the Paraquat Prevention Act , aims to eliminate the use of the pesticide paraquat in the United States. Upon enactment, the bill would legally declare paraquat as causing unreasonable adverse effects on the environment , triggering immediate regulatory action. Specifically, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would be required to cancel the registration of all uses of paraquat and subsequently revoke any tolerances or exemptions allowing its presence in or on food. The bill also explicitly prohibits the continued sale and use of any existing stocks of paraquat from the date of enactment. Finally, to ensure a permanent ban, the legislation prevents the EPA Administrator from reregistering paraquat under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act in the future.
