This bill, known as the Restore Military Families’ Voices Act, aims to enhance the rights and protections for tenants residing in privatized military housing. It significantly modifies existing law regarding nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) , explicitly prohibiting landlords from requesting such agreements from current, former, or prospective tenants, including for services related to the housing unit. This prohibition is extended to cover all types of privatized military housing, ensuring comprehensive protection against NDAs. Furthermore, the legislation expands the avenues available for tenants to report concerns without fear of retaliation. Tenants are now protected when reporting issues not only to the housing management office but also to the Chief Housing Officer of the Department of Defense , an inspector general, or members of Congress. The bill also mandates that the Inspector General notify the relevant military department Secretary and congressional committees within ten business days of receiving a reprisal report, strengthening oversight and accountability for tenant complaints.
