This bill expands existing "Right to Try" laws to include investigational individualized medical treatments , which are defined as drugs or biological products developed for a patient based on an analysis of their unique genomic profile . This includes their DNA, genes, and metabolites. The legislation aims to provide access to these cutting-edge therapies for patients diagnosed with a life-threatening disease or condition or severely debilitating illness . To qualify, patients must have considered approved treatment options, a fact that must be certified by a physician in good standing who is not compensated by the treatment manufacturer. Furthermore, patients or their legally authorized representatives must provide comprehensive written informed consent , which includes an explanation of currently approved treatments and the patient's acknowledgment that conventional options are unlikely to prolong or improve their life. While eligible manufacturers and healthcare facilities may offer these treatments, they are not required to make them available to any patient.
