This bill, known as the Active Transportation for Public Lands Act , amends Title 23 of the United States Code to mandate a dedicated funding stream for active transportation. It requires the Secretary of Transportation to combine and set aside not less than 5 percent of funds authorized for the Federal lands transportation program and the Federal lands access program each fiscal year. The allocated funds are to be used for projects and activities defined as active transportation . This includes the construction, planning, and design of on-road and off-road trail facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other nonmotorized transportation, such as sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, and safety features. Additionally, it covers infrastructure for safe routes for non-drivers, including children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities, and the conversion of abandoned railroad corridors into trails.
