This legislation, known as the "Western Tribal Water Act of 2026," reauthorizes the Indian Reservation Drinking Water Program , which was originally established under the America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018. The bill specifically expands the program's eligibility to include 10 projects located within the Upper Colorado River Basin , recognizing the substantial water supply challenges faced by tribes in that region. To support these efforts, the Act authorizes an appropriation of $60,000,000 for the program for each of fiscal years 2027 and 2028. This funding is intended to help Indian Tribes in drought-stricken areas across the Western United States improve their drinking water supplies and other essential water services. The bill highlights the significant infrastructure needs, such as those of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, to fix aging drinking water delivery systems.
Referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in addition to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
