Family Farm Transition Act of 2026

This bill directs the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a new initiative called the Farm Land Link Program within 180 days of its enactment. The program's core purpose is to connect individuals seeking to transition away from farming with those aspiring to become farmers, thereby facilitating the smooth transfer of agricultural operations and properties. This initiative aims to address critical issues of farm succession and new farmer entry into the agricultural sector.

Key duties of the Secretary include creating and maintaining a comprehensive database of both transitioning and aspiring farmers, which will be instrumental in facilitating the transfer of farm businesses and properties. The program also requires the publication of guidance on these transfers, with the Secretary mandated to consider the results of the 2018 Commission on Farm Transitions study. The Farm Land Link Program is initially authorized for a period of five years, though the Secretary has the discretion to extend it for an additional five-year term, and biennial reports to Congress are required until its final termination.
