This bill proposes to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act by expanding the definition of an aggravated felony to include specific serious drunk driving offenses. These offenses involve driving while intoxicated, impaired, or under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or other illegal narcotics, provided they result in the death of, or serious bodily injury to, another person . The classification as an aggravated felony applies regardless of whether the conviction is a misdemeanor or felony under federal, state, tribal, or local law. As a direct consequence of this reclassification, any alien convicted of, or admitting to committing, such an offense will be rendered inadmissible to the United States. These amendments will take effect upon enactment and apply to actions taken on or after that date, irrespective of when the original criminal conviction occurred.
