Protein for Every Plate Act of 2026

This legislative proposal aims to enhance the nutritional content of food assistance by increasing the supply of animal protein. It amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to specifically allocate an additional $200,000,000 for the purchase of animal protein for both fiscal years 2026 and 2027. This dedicated funding is intended to supplement the existing commodities provided under federal food programs. The purchased animal protein will be distributed as part of food assistance initiatives authorized by the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983 , thereby expanding access to protein-rich foods for beneficiaries.
