Plug Offshore Wells Act

This legislation, known as the Plug Offshore Wells Act , requires the Secretary of the Interior to annually submit a public report to Congress on the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas wells, platforms, and pipelines. The report must detail the number of required and received decommissioning applications, instances where decommissioning deadlines were missed, and infrastructure approved for decommissioning in place. It also mandates reporting on the lengths of pipelines removed versus those left in place, and the status of enforcement actions by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), including penalties and disqualifications. The first report is due two years after the act's enactment, with subsequent reports submitted annually.
