This bill amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to establish a new condition for eligibility for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant program. It mandates that state or political subdivision law enforcement agencies must enter into a written memorandum of agreement with the Secretary of Homeland Security under section 287(g) of the Act. Specifically, any agency that has not entered into such an agreement within 180 days of the bill's enactment will be deemed ineligible to apply for or receive any grants from the COPS program or its successor programs. The Attorney General is directed to consult with the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish procedures for verifying these agreements before approving grant awards. These provisions will take effect on the date of enactment and will apply to all COPS grant applications submitted for fiscal year 2027 and subsequent fiscal years.
