HIRE DEA Act

This legislation, known as the HIRE DEA Act , grants the Attorney General direct hire authority for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for fiscal years 2027 through 2034. This authority allows for the expedited appointment of qualified candidates to positions deemed necessary to support the DEA's mission, bypassing certain federal hiring regulations. The bill specifies that this direct hire authority applies to a broad range of "covered positions," including criminal investigators/Special Agents , intelligence analysts, forensic specialists, and community outreach coordinators. It also empowers the Attorney General to identify additional necessary positions based on emerging drug trafficking trends or threats. The primary goal is to strengthen the DEA's operational capacity by enabling more efficient recruitment of critical personnel to combat drug trafficking activities.
