Transparency in Federal Land Acquisitions Act

This bill, titled the Transparency in Federal Land Acquisitions Act , requires the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to implement public notice and comment procedures for its land protection plans . The FWS Director must publish proposed plans in the Federal Register at least 60 days before finalization, allowing interested persons to submit written feedback. This mandate aims to enhance transparency and public engagement in federal land acquisition decisions, overriding typical exemptions for agency management functions. However, the notice and comment requirement does not apply to small expansions of National Wildlife Refuge System units. Specifically, expansions totaling less than 50 acres or 15 percent of the unit's total acreage are exempt from these public involvement procedures.
