CLOSE Act

This bill seeks to amend the CARES Act by terminating several federal unemployment insurance programs and rescinding their remaining unobligated funds. It specifically targets the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) , Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) , Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) , and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) programs. Under the proposed legislation, benefit payments for PUA, FPUC, and MEUC would cease 30 days after the bill's enactment, though states could still receive funds for administrative expenses. Additionally, states would be prohibited from entering new agreements for FPUC or MEUC benefits. All unobligated balances of funds appropriated for these unemployment programs would be rescinded, also taking effect 30 days after the bill becomes law.
