ACE Agriculture Act

The "Advancing Cutting Edge Agriculture Act" permanently reauthorizes the Agriculture Advanced Research and Development Authority (AGARDA), removing its previous "pilot" program designation. This legislation significantly expands AGARDA's mission to address critical challenges in agriculture, including enhancing export competitiveness , promoting environmental sustainability , and advancing water conservation technologies . It also focuses on developing solutions for the reduction, avoidance, sequestration, or mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience to extreme weather, drought, and various plant and animal threats. The bill authorizes increased funding for AGARDA, allocating $100,000,000 annually for fiscal years 2027 through 2032, and permits the use of other available funds, explicitly excluding Commodity Credit Corporation funds. It clarifies AGARDA's organizational structure, ensuring the Director reports to the Chief Scientist, and establishes provisions for maintaining a qualified staff. By making AGARDA permanent and broadening its scope, the Act aims to foster long-term, high-risk research and development to overcome technological barriers in agriculture.
