This bill requires certain large motor vehicle manufacturers to produce a minimum number of vehicles equipped with advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology. Specifically, manufacturers that produce over 250,000 vehicles annually must comply with these new provisions, aiming to significantly reduce incidents of impaired driving. Within 180 days of enactment, these covered manufacturers must manufacture or import at least 10,000 passenger vehicles per year that meet the DADSS Subsystem Performance Specification Document . Additionally, they must produce another 10,000 passenger vehicles annually that comply with specific sections of the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) version 10.3 . The Euro NCAP standard can be updated, but the Secretary of Transportation can reject a revised standard if it does not meet motor vehicle safety needs. The requirements of this bill are temporary and will expire upon the effective date of a comprehensive federal rule on impaired driving prevention technology, as mandated by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Non-compliance with these provisions will result in civil penalties .
